About

THE BASICS

Welcome! I’m Kerry,  an (almost) thirty-something living in Baltimore. I spend 40 hours a week as an animal trainer. The rest of the time I devote to healthy eating, staying active, blogging, photography and crafting. K of The Adventures of Z & K

I started this blog as a way to share my pictures, workouts, favorite recipes and fun experiences. There will be lots of adventures to come, so follow along!

THE GIRL (K)

I enjoy being creative and crafty. I find any excuse I can to travel and know there’s still so much of the world I want to see. I have a B.S. in Zoology and have always loved animals and animal training. I’m a Pinterest addict. Coffee is a necessity in my life…as is dark chocolate. The way to my heart is anything the color red.

THE BOY (Z)

I met Z in the summer of 2010. He compliments me perfectly—he’s the dreamer and I’m the planner. Everyday he challenges me, makes me laugh, supports me, and acts as my permanent running buddy and healthy-eating supporter.

THE DEPLOYMENT

Z served in the Marine Corps right out of high school and since then joined the Army National Guard. Nine months after we started dating Z was sent on a year-long deployment to Egypt. It was a big test for our relationship and certainly the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to go through. Ultimately we grew as a couple and came out stronger because of it.

THE WEDDING (December 2013)

In December of 2011, I had the opportunity to visit Z in Egypt and while there he surprised me with a proposal at the base of a pyramid. With decided to take our passion for traveling and plan a destination wedding! In December we left the cold weather behind and headed to St. Lucia with 24 of our closets friends and family members. For all the details, check out my wedding page!

THE FITNESS

I took Z’s deployment as an opportunity to focus on myself. It was then that I started on a journey to get myself in shape and adopt an overall more healthy lifestyle. It was time to stop talking about doing it and actually make it happen. I started running regularly, found a weekly adult dance class, even delved into the world of strength training (believe me, lifting weights is the last thing I ever pictured myself doing).

For Z and I running and strength training have now become a regular part of our lives. We are always looking for new opportunities to be active and have tried everything from cross fit to ballroom.

THE FOOD

For years I’ve battled chronic stomach issues, later diagnosed as IBS, which has left me intolerant to a number of foods. After researching on my own, visiting doctors and nutritionists, and LOTS of trial and error I find myself with a laundry list of foods I “can’t eat”.  I’m slowly but surely educating myself about the world of food and nutrition and have found that whole, minimally processed foods keep my stomach happy. In March of 2013 I started following a low FODMAP diet and now find enjoyment in cooking my own meals and adapting recipes.

THE PLACE

Originally from New York, I ventured down to Maryland for school and have stayed ever since. I’ve lived in downtown Baltimore for the past eight years and enjoyed all the opportunities that came along with harbor-side living. However it was time for a change–Z and I just recently moved outside of the city to experience life in the suburbs!
