**Please note: As of Monday 6/17 giveaway is now closed and a winner has been selected.**

Ok, now that we’ve spent most of the week on mushyloveydovey stuff, time to turn the focus back to another love of mine: food.

There are tons of different monthly subscription services out there. You know, the kind where you pay a certain amount and every month a box of goodies arrives at your door. They have ones for almost everything such as make-up (Birch Box), clothing (Stitch Fix), even pet items (Bark Box).

While I’ve never myself bought in to such a service, I can see the benefit: they can broaden your horizons and let you sample new products you might not have otherwise tried. If you don’t like it, it’s not the end of the world, the next month you’ll get fun new goodies!

THE COMPANY

The ladies from Bestowed, a monthly healthy food subscription, asked if I’d like to try out their service and share my thoughts will all of you. Before I said yes though  I wanted to make sure it was things that I’d actually eat. With my stomach as fickle as it is, my dietary tastes can be tricky to navigate.

I visited their site and learned the following:

  • The company was founded by a woman named Heather Bauer  who is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a New York State Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist (CDN).
  • They partner with a lot of “health conscious” brands I already enjoy! (I mean, quinoa cereal was one of the monthly offerings…how could I say no to that?!)image

THE BOX

I was quite excited when this fun little package arrived in town.

006

The first thing I came across once I opened it was a letter with descriptions of each product, why they were chosen, as well as suggestions for use. Very user-friendly!

So what exactly was in it???

HEMP HEARTS

Yeah, I thought it sounded weird at first too. However, upon research, they are similar to chia seeds in that they are a great source of protein, fiber and healthy fat. Hemp Hearts

I enjoyed them sprinkled on top of my waffles with peanut butter for some added crunch.

KIND GRANOLA

WOW was this good. I’m already a fan of KIND bars but didn’t know they made granola too. Kind Granola

I tried out the oats & honey flavor which was tasty without being overly sweet. One of the serving suggestions from the enclosed letter was to sprinkle it on top of oatmeal….a good decision.

ARROWHEAD MILLS INSTANT OATMEAL

As you can see ffrom above, I love love love oatmeal. There are just so many variations you can make that I never tire of it. I always buy plain though and then snazz it up myself so as to avoid the dreaded added sugar trap. These packets were perfect for keeping in my cabinet at work for mid-morning snack breaks!

EBOOST

I’m always a bit skeptical of energy drinky-things  (I automatically think caffeine/sugar), but after looking at the ingredients of EBOOST I could see that the main ingredient was green tea extract and that stevia was used as a sweetener. All you have to do is pour a packet into 12oz of water and enjoy.

bestowed- natural energyOver my weekend I switched out my afternoon iced coffee for this drink to give me a pick me up while blogging. It was tasty enough but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it myself.

Fig Bar + Chicken Jerky

There are two items which came in the box that I DID NOT try (they will go to Z instead). This 100% natural fig bar (think Newton) sounds delicious but seeing as how I’m avoiding wheat I skipped over it.

The other item was dried chicken breast (jerky) with mango and papaya. I have an aversion to jerky (I can’t even tolerate the smell of it) not to mention the two added fruits are high FODMAPs.bestowed-didn't try yet

iTRAIN Gift Card

There was one more little goody in the box…a gift card! bestowed box- itrain

iTrain is an online source of downloadable workout programs for your mp3 player. They offer run coaching, yoga, ballet sculpting, as well as strength circuits. They even have an “I Do Wedding Package” which includes a combination of cardio/strength/ballet conditioning workouts (7hrs worth!).

Most workouts are $8.99-$12.99 for 30-60mins worth of coaching. I have to sit down and browse through all the options and decide how to spend my $25. So fun!
