Today Z and I head off to Iowa. Can’t say I ever imagined listing that on my travel destinations, but why not!

I have yet to meet Z’s mom’s side of the family, complete with a plethora of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Grandparents. The family lives in Iowa, Grandparents owning a large farm with farmhouse and all. What better way to meet everyone then to get them all in one spot for a reunion!

I’m looking forward to an  out-of-town weekend of family, farms and fun.

I’m certainly not used to the big family mentality. Mine is pretty small….I’ll blame it on my Mom who was an only child thus being a limiting factor ; ). My only experience with family reunions has been the ones I’ve seen on tv. But after this weekend I can check it off the list.

In the spirit of the weekend, I’d like to introduce you to my family:

Mom & Dad

They met as undergrads at Syracuse (hence the hat) and got married shortly after graduation.

Mom’s an avid bird-watcher.

(Taking in the local inhabitants of Alaska.)

Dad has recently delved into the world of Porsche racing.

(That’s his car in the red.)

Together they go geocaching and have made a name for themselves by consistently getting up at ridiculous hours of the morning to find them. In addition, they are willing to do whatever it takes to make the find….

As my younger brother in my mind he looks like this…

me and kevi

When in reality he looks like this…

He has a big boy job as a Civil Engineer and lives with his girlfriend Victoria in Rochester, NY. You may remember they came to down for a visit last month.

Kevin has always been in to soccer, playing all through college as well as adult leagues in the years since.

Fun Fact: A bouncer at a bar once stopped to tell him he looks like Michael Phelps. Maybe it’s the uncanny similarity in facial bone structure, but it’s totally true.

All Together Now!

I apologize in advance for being MIA for the next couple days but I will be sure return with lots of pictures and tales from the mid-west.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Question of the day: Have you ever been to a family reunion?
