I’ve recently become very interested in learning more about nutrition and the foods that our bodies need for fuel and function. There’s a ton of information out there about the topic, but why not start with the basics.

Doesn’t get more basic than that! I’m definitely a fan of the “ ____ for Dummies” series of books as they present the information in an easy and accessible format and provide all the basics you need.

I’ve heard a lot about “superfoods” but couldn’t exactly tell you what they were. According to the book they are foods that contain large amount of good-for-you vitamins and minerals, and have been shown to reduce risk of disease, promote healthy body function AND even prevent cancers!

In order to understand why these foods are important the book starts out by taking you through “Nutrition 101.” In subsequent chapters they lay out each food group and the corresponding superfoods, while also providing ideas on how to use and prepare those foods. The culmination is a 58-page recipe section. So fun!

I plan on creating a series of posts sharing what I learn as I go. Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to making healthy choices with food.
